The book Anthology of Modern Turkish Literature I: 1839–1865 aims to provide students of modern Turkish literature and cultural transformation with a rich, comparative body of text-based material. It examines the various phases of a period spanning approximately 150 years, including the preparatory phase preceding the Tanzimat, through both 'pure literary' works and the intellectual and cultural texts of the era. The goal is thus to highlight the relationships between literary works and their social and cultural contexts.
