About the Book
The right of students with disabilities to benefit from higher education on the basis of equal opportunity is guaranteed within the framework of national legislation and a rights-based approach to education. In this context, Article 15 of Law No. 5378 on Persons with Disabilities mandates the implementation of necessary arrangements to ensure the accessibility of educational processes and instructional materials. In some higher education programs, Ottoman Turkish is included as a compulsory course in the curriculum due to the fact that historical documents and primary sources relevant to the field were written in Ottoman Turkish. To enable students with visual impairments to take this course under equal conditions with their peers and to access relevant academic resources without exemption from the course, an accessible Ottoman Turkish instructional material has been prepared.Designed to be fully compatible with screen-reader technologies, this material enables students to learn the Ottoman Turkish alphabet and fundamental grammatical structures. Through thematic texts and practice activities included in the material, students are provided with opportunities to reinforce and consolidate their learning. In this way, visually impaired students are supported in learning Ottoman Turkish through accessible educational resources and in fulfilling academic requirements on an equal basis with their peers.
